Farewell to Yvonne Leonard: A Journey of Growth and Friendship at Classic LifeCare
When Yvonne Leonard moved to Vancouver from Ireland in August 2022, she initially worked remotely finishing a project for her previous employer. Yvonne and her partner didn’t have a social circle in the city, and she was eager to make new friends. As she searched for marketing opportunities, she came across the Marketing Coordinator position at Classic LifeCare. She was interviewed by Lissa and Yvette, who were welcoming and friendly.
Her first memory of Classic LifeCare is the day of her interview, and it is still fresh in her mind. Yvonne recalls, “The energy and warmth at this office drew me in. I still remember everyone walking out of the boardroom from a meeting, and though they did not even know me, they greeted me with such excitement and wished me good luck for my interview. That was the moment I knew I wanted to work here, and, oh, was I right!” Now, 18 months later, she moves on in her journey back to Ireland after helping market Classic, build its brand, and support its teams.
When asked what she found most interesting about Classic LifeCare, she quickly answers that the uniqueness of Classic LifeCare lies in its people. She feels there is a genuine love for both colleagues and the work they do. Yvonne had never seen such a tight-knit workgroup where many have been friends for over 25 years. The relationships extend beyond age and status, with everyone sitting around the table chatting at lunch – both company leaders and new hires. She says she will fondly remember when John and Susanne, Classic’s owners, hosted the team in their home on several occasions.
When Yvonne left Ireland, she was anxious, having never moved away before. She expected homesickness but found love and family in her Classic colleagues. The passion they have for their work, which they have been doing for 50 years, is remarkable. Classic LifeCare is not like an institutionalized workspace; they personally know all their employees and clients, ensuring they address requests and concerns with care.
Yvonne likes to credit the team at Classic LifeCare for having a significant impact on her life. Some of them became her closest friends in this city. She also said, “Yvette, Lissa, and Britney have been great mentors to me. This is because of the trust they placed in my work and always providing that positive energy every day. I had creative freedom with my projects and could also create my own. I really do appreciate this guidance and I will miss them and the whole team.”
Yvonne has a word of advice to anyone joining the Classic LifeCare team: “Be open to learning. Some of the team members have been at Classic LifeCare for over 25 years. They have a treasure chest of knowledge about the industry. They can mentor you to be the best version of yourself. So, use that and the work will always be fulfilling.”
She says she will miss Vancouver and its vibrant lifestyle and proximity to beach, mountains and endless activities. Classic LifeCare will miss Yvonne and we wish her all the best wherever the future takes her.
